What it is
Bumbu XO is an aged rum bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV) in a 750 ml bottle. Its matte black bottle with the embossed Bumbu cross makes it a standout on the back bar, and it is made for slow sipping rather than heavy mixing.
Where and how it's made
- Distilled from sugarcane in Panama
- Aged up to 18 years in ex-bourbon barrels
- Finished in Spanish white oak sherry casks for extra depth and dried-fruit character
Tasting notes
- Nose: vanilla, toasted oak, toffee and dried fruit
- Palate: smooth and rich, with caramel, cocoa, baking spice and a hint of sherry
- Finish: long and warm, with oak and soft sweetness
Serving and pairing
Sip it neat or over a large ice cube, or stir it into a rum Old Fashioned. Pairs with dark chocolate, crème brûlée, grilled steak or a mild cigar. Store the bottle upright in a cool, dark place, away from direct sunlight and heat.
