Highland agave rested in ex-bourbon barrels for a smooth, versatile reposado.
What it is
Olmeca Altos Reposado is a 100% agave tequila bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV). After distillation it rests for several months in former American whiskey barrels, which softens the spirit and adds vanilla and light wood without hiding the fresh highland agave. Tequila Altos was created with bartenders in mind, so this reposado is equally at home in a cocktail or sipped on the rocks.
Where and how it's made
- 100% blue Weber agave from the Los Altos highlands of Jalisco, Mexico
- Part of the agave is crushed with a traditional tahona stone wheel
- Created with input from bartenders and a Mexican master distiller
- Reposado, rested in ex-bourbon barrels, bottled at 80 proof (40% ABV)
Tasting notes
- Nose: cooked agave, vanilla, orange peel and a hint of oak
- Palate: smooth and sweet, with caramel, citrus and gentle spice
- Finish: medium length, with soft wood and pepper
Serving and pairing
Use it in a richer margarita, a tequila Old Fashioned or a Paloma, or sip it over a large cube. Pairs with carnitas, chicken mole, grilled corn and queso fundido. Store the bottle upright in a cool, dark place, away from direct sunlight and heat.
