What it is
Nikka Yoichi Single Malt comes from the Yoichi distillery on the island of Hokkaido, founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, often called the father of Japanese whisky. The distillery sits near the sea and still heats its pot stills directly with coal, a rare traditional method that helps build a robust, slightly smoky spirit. Bottled at 90 proof (45% ABV), it is a great introduction to the richer, peatier side of Japanese whisky.

Tasting notes

Serving and pairing
Enjoy it neat or with a little water, or try it in a tall highball with chilled soda water and a lemon twist. Pairs with grilled fish, smoked salmon, oysters and sharp aged cheeses. Store the bottle upright in a cool, dark place, away from direct sunlight and heat.
