1792 swaps rye for wheat here, trading spice for a softer, dessert-like sweetness.
What it is
1792 Sweet Wheat is a wheated Kentucky straight bourbon bottled at 91.2 proof (45.6% ABV) in a 750 ml bottle. First released in 2015, it was the first wheated bourbon in the 1792 line.
Where and how it's made
- Distilled and aged at Barton 1792 Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky, the town's oldest fully operating distillery
- Uses wheat instead of rye as the secondary grain alongside corn and malted barley
- Aged in charred new American oak
Tasting notes
- Nose: candied nuts, caramel and vanilla with light floral notes
- Palate: soft and light-bodied, with warm caramel, vanilla cookie and dried fruit
- Finish: gentle and slightly dry, with soft oak tannins and a whisper of spice
Serving and pairing
Easy to sip neat or on ice, and lovely in a wheated Old Fashioned or a highball. Pair it with bread pudding, honey-glazed ham or mild cheeses.
